Gambrinus is an unpasteurized lager produced with double decoction, using three different types of malt: Plzen malt, caramelized malt and toasted malt. The combination of these Czech malts with a single hop variety (Sládek) gives this beer an intense, full flavor, with a balanced bitterness and a pleasant, hoppy aroma.

In 1869, at the beginning of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, 20 of the most important and influential Czech entrepreneurs and professionals, including Emil Škoda (owner of the famous car industry), met secretly with the dream of creating a new brewery in Plzen, in the heart of Bohemia. The goal was to produce only high-quality Czech beers, but at the time an old medieval “privilege” was still in force, which in practice established a state monopoly. So they pretended they wanted to build a distillery, right next to the old brewery, and as soon as the concession to produce beer was liberalized, they quickly converted the distillery into a brewery.
